Privacy Policy
Effective date: 10 September 2026. This policy applies to the Therapify mobile app (also known as AI Psychologist) and the service at aipsychologist.app.
1. Overview
Therapify offers supportive conversations with an AI therapist. To do that, the app collects the information described below and shares part of it with the AI provider named in section 5. We never sell personal data. We ask for your explicit consent inside the app before any conversation or profile data is sent to the AI provider, and you can withdraw that consent at any time (section 7).
2. Information we collect
| Category | Details | How it is collected |
|---|---|---|
| Account | An account created using a device fingerprint containing platform, operating-system version, screen dimensions and a random identifier; country (from your network connection); language; time zone. | Automatically when you first open the app. |
| Profile | The name you prefer to be called, age, gender, family status, work status, therapy goal and preferred session schedule. | Entered by you during onboarding; editable in Profile. |
| Conversations | The text of your messages and the therapist's replies; the mood you choose when starting a session; safety flags produced by automated screening. | Created while you use the therapy sessions. |
| Voice | Voice messages you record, their transcripts, and the audio of spoken replies. | Recorded by you in the chat (microphone permission). |
| AI permission | The date and version of the AI disclosure you explicitly accepted, or your withdrawal. | When you choose Allow sharing with OpenAI or withdraw permission in the app. |
| Session memory | Short summaries of earlier sessions, generated automatically so the therapist can remember you. | Generated from your conversations. |
| Subscription | Whether you have an active subscription and related purchase events (no card data). | From the App Store through our subscription provider. |
| Notifications | A push-notification device token and your reminder preferences. | When you allow notifications. |
| Technical | App version, device model and operating system, IP-derived country, request logs and error reports. | Automatically when the app talks to our servers. |
3. How we use your information
- To provide the therapy conversations, including generating replies, converting speech to text and text to speech, and remembering earlier sessions.
- To screen messages for safety and show crisis resources when needed.
- To personalise the experience (for example addressing you by your preferred name) and to send session reminders you have asked for.
- To manage your subscription and the free trial.
- To keep the service secure, diagnose problems and improve the app.
4. Legal basis and consent
Before sharing data with OpenAI, the app displays a separate “Your data and OpenAI” notice naming the recipient, listing the data and purposes, and offering “Allow sharing with OpenAI” and “Don’t allow”. Accepting general terms, granting microphone permission, or continuing to use the app does not grant AI-sharing permission. New users and users who accepted an older disclosure must explicitly accept the current notice before new AI requests can proceed.
We record the date and version of the notice accepted. Declining leaves features without AI available. We also check permission before legacy AI requests, queued replies, summaries and personalised reminder generation. Processing needed to run account, subscription and security functions is based on the service you asked us to provide.
5. Third parties we share data with
| Recipient | What is shared | Why | Protection |
|---|---|---|---|
| OpenAI (United States) – AI provider | Messages, AI replies, conversation history and session summaries; voice recordings and transcripts; selected mood; profile answers (preferred name, age, gender, family and work status, goals and schedule); language and country context; and pseudonymous request identifiers used for safety and request handling. We do not intentionally add your e-mail, phone number, purchase details or device fingerprint to AI prompts. Personal details you include in your profile, messages or recordings are shared as part of that content. This content is not anonymous. | Generating replies, transcription, speech synthesis, safety screening, session summaries and personalised reminder texts when reminders are enabled. | Encrypted transfers and OpenAI’s API terms and Data Processing Addendum apply. API data is not used for model training by default. We disable storage of generated Responses API responses. This does not disable all retention: abuse monitoring logs may be kept for up to 30 days, or longer when legally required, and limited technical storage such as prompt caching may apply. Transcription and moderation have different retention rules. See OpenAI’s API data controls. |
| Adapty Tech Inc. – subscription management | A pseudonymous customer identifier and App Store purchase events. | Activating and restoring your subscription. | Processes data under its privacy policy and data processing terms. |
| Google LLC – Firebase Cloud Messaging | Push-notification device token, notification text and routing identifiers. Personalised reminder text may reflect session themes. | Delivering reminders and reply notifications. | Processes data under Google's data processing terms. |
| Apple Inc. | Purchase information. | App distribution and payments. | Apple's privacy policy applies. |
We require each third party that receives personal data to provide the same or equal protection described in this policy, including confidentiality, appropriate security and limited use for the services it provides. The providers’ applicable data processing terms govern that processing; their retention limits and legal obligations are described above. We may also disclose data when the law requires it.
6. Retention
Conversations, voice messages and session summaries are kept while your account exists so the therapist can remember you. Deleting a session removes its conversation records and associated recordings from active storage. Deleting your account from Menu → Profile removes the account, profile, sessions, messages, recordings and summaries from our active systems. Technical logs are used for security and troubleshooting. Subscription providers may retain records as required for accounting. Withdrawal of AI permission does not itself erase existing records or recall data already sent to OpenAI; OpenAI’s retention rules above still apply. Contact Support for data requests or questions about retained records.
7. Your choices and rights
- Review the notice: Menu → AI data sharing → Your data and OpenAI.
- Withdraw permission: Menu → AI data sharing → Withdraw AI permission. Once the server confirms withdrawal, new AI requests, queued AI work and AI-personalised reminder generation are blocked. Features without AI and existing conversation history remain available. A request already sent to OpenAI cannot be recalled. If saving withdrawal fails, the app blocks this device and asks you to retry so the server can also stop processing. You can explicitly allow sharing again later.
- Account and erasure requests: Menu → Profile → Delete account removes your account and the associated data described in section 6 from our active systems. Contact Support for other erasure requests.
- Notifications: you can turn reminders off in the app or in your device settings.
- Access and correction: your profile is editable in the app; contact us for a copy of your data.
8. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (TLS) and stored on access-controlled servers. Voice files are served only to the signed-in account that owns them. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
Therapify is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children; contact us if you believe a child has used the app.
10. Not a medical service
Therapify is a supportive tool and does not replace professional diagnosis or treatment. If you are in crisis, contact local emergency services or a helpline.
11. Changes to this policy
We will update this page and, when the changes affect what is shared with the AI provider, ask for your consent again in the app.
12. Contact
